London's ULEZ Rules

The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London was introduced on April 8, 2019, to address air pollution in the city. However, please note that there may have been updates or changes to the ULEZ rules since then, so it's important to refer to the official sources or the Transport for London (TfL) website for the most up-to-date information. Here are the general rules as of September 2021:

  1. Area Covered: The ULEZ covers the same area as the Congestion Charge zone in central London.

  2. Emission Standards: Vehicles entering the ULEZ must meet certain emission standards. Currently, the standards for most vehicles (cars, motorcycles, vans, minibusses, and other specialist vehicles) are:

    • Petrol vehicles (Euro 4 standard): Generally, vehicles manufactured after January 2006 are compliant.
    • Diesel vehicles (Euro 6 standard): Generally, vehicles manufactured after September 2015 are compliant.
  3. Charges: If a vehicle does not meet the emission standards, a daily charge is applicable. The ULEZ charge is in addition to the Congestion Charge, so if a vehicle is liable for both, both charges will apply. The charges for non-compliant vehicles are as follows (as of September 2021):

    • Cars, motorcycles, and small vans: £12.50 per day.
    • Heavier vehicles (lorries, buses, coaches): £100 per day.
  4. Operating Hours: The ULEZ operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

It's important to check the official TfL website or other reliable sources for any updates or changes to the ULEZ rules as they may have been revised since my last knowledge update in September 2021.
